As one of the world’s leading merchants of grains and oilseeds, Cargill connects producers and users of grains and oilseeds around the globe. We operate on an integrated global basis to source, store, trade, process and distribute grains and oilseeds including wheat, corn, oilseeds, barley and sorghum, as well as vegetable oils and meals. We have a broad global presence in grain origination, shipping and processing, offering a range of farmer services and risk management solutions, and have significant expertise in handling identity preserved and differentiated products.

In Malaysia, our agricultural supply chain activities include:

  • Sourcing, processing and distributing grains and oilseeds, including soybean meal

Helping our partners thrive

Our Malaysian volumes have increased by more than 400% over the last 20 years. Today, we handle over 900,000 metric tons of grains and oilseeds every year, serving feed mill customers with key products such as corn and soybean meal from Argentina. Most customers use our products to manufacture feed for the poultry, pig and aquaculture industries.

We work hard to make our partners' businesses more successful, leveraging Cargill's worldwide resources to provide added-value services including risk management, finance, specialty products, supply chain management, and livestock and feed mill solutions.

Our capabilities and resources

Our import/export facility at Port Klang is complemented by distribution sites at Westport in Selangor and Butterworth in Penang. The warehouse at Westport has a capacity of 80,000mts, with the Butterworth facility able to store up to 30,000mts.

Integrated supply chain management enables us to source, process, transport and distribute grains and oilseeds around the world. Across all our Malaysian operations, we recognise the value of an efficient supply chain and distribution system in delivering raw materials at the least cost and in a timely manner.

Core products include feedgrains, oilseeds and oilseed by-products such as oils and protein meal. We also market other ingredients including feed wheat, corn gluten meal, canola meal and distilled dry grains and solubles.

Grains and oilseeds
Our handling and distribution capabilities are based on providing optimal discharging services, which lead to faster turn-around and lower cost-per-metric ton for our customers. For example, our Westport facility is able to discharge 10,000 metric tons per day - recognised as a world-class performance.

Our grains and oilseeds operations are characterised by close collaboration with customers in relationships based on trust and mutual benefits. For example, we work with customers to assess commodity market risks and create tailor-made risk management tools.

Protein meal and corn
Our global origination system and crushing plants have enabled us to import Argentine high protein soybean meal, in both meal and pellet format, into Malaysia since 1996. In fact, we are currently the only company able to bring in this product as a pellet.

Our customers depend on us for consistent supply and reliable product quality. We meet the demands of the domestic animal feed and husbandry industries and also serve local traders who support ‘home mixing’ for smaller farms.

Malaysian customers have traditionally preferred South American corn because of its consistent nutrient specification. Leveraging Cargill’s global origination system, we are able to provide a consistent supply of high quality corn to our customers, including from South America.
